Somehow I finished my list a day early! It turns out a few days of watching back-to-back movies is a good way to burn through a lot somewhat quickly.
This was a really fun exercise. Like most people I can get into a bit of a rut when it comes to media I consume, so being forced to watch things I'd never choose to watch on my own was really refreshing. It was also nice to have a completely zero risk, no stress project. Most of what I do outside of work has at least some pressure. This was none of that.
Monster Movies
It turns out old monster movies are absolutely great! I liked some of them so much I'm definitely going to delve into this genre a bit more. My favorites:
- The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
- Godzilla (1954)
- Dracula (1931)
Some of them weren't great though. The Fly (1958) and The Invisible Man (1933) were both pretty slow and boring.
Modern Gore
I don't like gore, but there were a few here that were actually pretty decent.
- The Loved Ones (2012)
- Ready or Not (2019)
- Possessor: Uncut (2020)
Modern Scary
When I think of scary movies I think of things like The Ring and The Orphanage, neither of which were on this list. Sometimes these modern generation of scary movies can stick with me a bit, so I was glad I didn't have to watch 50 of them. Here were my favorites:
- The Witch (2016)
- Hereditary (2018)
- Relic (2020)
Artful Films
There were a couple movies that were unexpectedly beautiful movies. I really enjoy movies with a lot of style, so these were great surprises.
- A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014)
- Let the Right One In (2008)
- The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
