My Journal - January 2007

2007-01-17       Not Smoking: Day 14
I'm just finishing up my 14th day without cigarettes. So far, it's been, well, freaking hard! I'm in a perpetual state of jonesing and it's killing me. Still, I've been through too much over the past few weeks to give up now. And besides, I kinda like being a non-smoker. You don't have to find a time and place to have a smoke. You don't smell bad. Even my teeth look about ten shades more white. Honestly, the Chantix does help. The cravings are constant, but manageable. Anyway, good results, terrible process. I'm really hoping my cravings go away soon.

After almost five months of not even really talking, Rachel and I have been seeing each other again. I'm not sure if you'd say we're back together, but we're not not together. We're even going out on a proper date on Friday. We'll see. :)

Last week I was in Dallas for a training course. Dan and I decided to live up the whole Texas thing so we listened to country music and went to a honky tonk bar and even a rodeo. Anyway, some pics...

Well, I'm crazy busy this week, so...

2007-01-03       Not Smoking: Day 0
I just smoked the last cigarette of my life. Feels good. Honestly, I think this medication is working as advertised because I could barely choke that last one down. Anyway, I'm not at all excited about this, but I'm freaking ready! Let's see how this plays out. ;)

2007-01-02       Not Smoking: Day -1
Happy New Year! Wow, 2007. Hard to believe, huh?

I welcomed the new year at Susan and Ryan's place. Just seven of us were there, which was really perfect. We drank and played President and Beer Pong. Good times had by all.

So, I've been on a new smoking cessation drug called Chantix for the past week. It's the kind of drug where you have to build up a bunch in your body before it's effective and you have to ramp up the dosage. Anyway, tomorrow will be my last day smoking. I'm looking forward to it. I wouldn't say I'm excited or anything, but I'm ready. According to the documentation on this Chantix it basically blocks the receptor in your brain that makes you happy from nicotine. So you go through withdrawal sort of slowly as it takes effect and then smoking just doesn't do anything for you. We'll see how it goes.

Anyway, I've had food poisoning all day (not pretty) and I'm exhausted...
