My Journal - August 2005

2005-08-28
So, another busy weekend is coming to a close. Friday Chewy and I took it easy while Rachel worked late. Saturday I went to the zoo with Bish, cleaned out my closet, ran a bunch of errands, and cooked a huge meal while Rachel worked. Today Rachel and I went to The Great Minnesota Get-together.

Rachel and Chewy.

Rachel in her bedroom window at her parents' house.

Some kind of rat-thing at the zoo.

A horse at the zoo rubbing its back like a house pet!

A snow monkey at its baby.

The gills of one of the zoo's sand sharks.

Chewy on the bed one morning.

I don't have anything else to say, really...

So, it's pretty late, but I just got a new external hard drive which is being formatted, so I'm up and I've got some time to blow.

So what's new? Not a whole lot, actually. Things are a fairly quiet at work. That dumb-ass EUOH project is still alive, barely. I know I've been saying this for months, but there's no way this thing is going to make it to production. Still, the business is really pushing. My R2 project (my side project which I've been dying to do for years!) is off and running. It looks like we'll be using Struts, Hibernate, Tomcat, Oracle RDBMS, etc. It's all coming together quite nicely. Dan and The Intern are even pitching in, which should help a lot.

Sad, but that's really all I've got to say. I've got some new pics to post once I get my new hard drive running so I can get them off my camera. I'm really tired. :)

It's late (or feels it, at least). Rachel and I spent the weekend in a town in Wisconsin, sort of by Milwaukee. Anyway, it was a lot of fun and I took some pics. Here are a few in chronological order, I think...

Rachel driving on the way to the wedding.

Jen and her roll-away bed.

The reception dinner.

The Girls being silly. I can't remember what they were reaching out for.

Things got a little crazy at the reception.

Roxy and Chewie either: A) playing; or B) about to kill each other.

Chewie after playing with Roxy tonight.

Well, I hate to post picks and run, but I've got some sleeping to do. :)

I started playing this PS2 game tonight and I sort of lost track of time, so it's way too late for me to be updating this thing. Still, I dumped tons of pics off my camera tonight and some of them were just too good...

The three of us.

It's amazing that Chewy can see past all that hair!

I really liked this one.

This is Chewy's standard bored-to-tears look.

My mom and my cousin's dog, Minah.

Carrie and Minah.

Ok, I've really got to hit the sack. There were a lot more "keepers" on that roll (or memory card?), so I'll post more later.

So it's August. In Minnesota that means brutally hot and humid weather mixed in with strong thunderstorms followed by a day or two of beautiful, comfortable summer. Rinse, repeat. According to my car, it hit 98 degrees today. I don't doubt it. Chewy and I just got back from a 5 mile walk and although I'm able to move my fingers, she seems completely velcro'd to the floor. Even her tongue is laying across the carpet.

My feet in Germany.

Snoopy.

Another thing about August: it'll be a full year since Rachel and I started dating. Wow, a year. In some ways it feels like just yesterday when I got lost on my way to pick her up for our first date. I was so nervous to knock on the door. In other ways it feels like we've been together a lot longer than a year. Not in a bad way, it's just hard for me to remember what life was like before I knew her. Anyhow, our one-year anniversary is on Sunday. Right now we're planning on taking it easy. Between Europe, Rachel's trip to San Francisco, and the overwhelming number of weddings this summer, we're both ready for some good ole fashioned R&R. No pun intended.

The camera museum.

A glass of german wine.

Things are starting to wind down at work. Tomorrow is our last official day with a development environment before the code freeze goes into effect. The EUOH project that's been pushed for so hard by everyone and their mother isn't even done being written, so it looks like that's a failed project. It's strange, but that's the very first time I've actually been involved in a project that wasn't a success. Looking back on it, it seems pretty obvious that it wasn't going to happen. I had always thought it was too aggressive. The strange part is tomorrow I have to tell the project manager that it's a no-go. I've been trying to tell him for the better part of a month, but he seems totally oblivious to my warnings. Either way, there's no amount of hard work or dumb luck that's going to save it. Too bad.

Oh, how sad it is that I have to post old pics because I haven't touched my camera in weeks. :(

Well, it's getting late. I haven't had the best sleep lately, so I should probably get to it...
