My Journal - February 2005

2005-02-27
So, as it turns out, that sick feeling I had in my stomach on Thursday night was not just nicotine withdrawal, it was food poisoning! I spent all day on Friday about two feet from toilet enjoying a beautiful ballet of GI fireworks. Oh, it was hell.

By Saturday morning I was much, much better and so I ended up going to look at apartments with Rachel. I ended up finding a kick-ass place for myself not far from where I'm living now. It's basically a townhouse that I'll be renting (for at least a year). Here's the floor plan:

The floor plan of my new place.

They ended up offering me an incredibly sweet deal so I signed the papers right there and then. The best part is, they allow dogs! So, when we get back from Europe: dog shopping!!! Anyway, like I said, it's basically a townhouse, so it has central air, forced-air heat, a washer/drier, and all that other fun stuff. It'll be really nice to finish out my renting career in a nice place.

Not much else to report. I had to take a sick day on Friday, so I'm really itching to get back into the office tomorrow morning...

So normally this is where I'd do a quick local news wrap up of my life since I last posted, but I'm just not in the mood. To be honest, I'm depressed like crazy. See, everything was going well this week. Rachel and I spent the weekend at the lake, which was a blast. I quit smoking on Sunday which has gone really, really well so far. I also started a new Stay Healthy plan that includes a little exercise and definitely eating better. Anyway, somehow with all this going on I managed to do some pretty damned cool things at work. I wrote some neat components to our framework which is going to add massive performance improvements as well as better shared memory usage in the DB, etc, etc. Things have been great.

So my lease is up at the end of April and I need to get it renewed. I checked online and they're leasing my place for $700-$800 a month, which is reasonable. I got a letter from the leasing office that said they'd renew me for a year at $999. Well, I thought that was The Sucker Price so I called in this afternoon to haggle a bit. The fscking leasing office lady promptly told me that the offer they gave me was the final offer. She wasn't going to give me a break. Well, this pissed me off to no end. I live for negotiating and I only get to do it once a year, usually. This pissed me off so much that I'm putting in notice and finding a new place. To top it off, when I got home from work today I re-figured my budget based on living alone and I'm barely going to be able to do it. I mean, this is going to be a razor-thin margin. Rachel said I should get a roommate, which would solve my financial woes, but I just don't think I want to have a roommate for a while. Besides, at my age I don't know anyone young enough to still be renting. I suppose I could ask around at work, but I really just want to live by myself.

Anyway, now that I write it all down it doesn't sound that bad. Still, I'm in the worst mood over it. Maybe it's nicotine withdrawal. Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow all chipper and happy. Maybe, maybe, maybe. In the mean time, here's some pics from this weekend at the cabin:

Oh, I'd kill a family member for a smoke right about now. I feel this strange, cold, empty feeling in my gut without 'em. You smoker's out there will understand. I know that if I went outside and had a smoke it wouldn't help, but my gut says different.

This is all I can take. Tomorrow is Friday, which I guess is good. Hopefully this weekend will be good.

Well, another crazy-busy weekend. Actually, Friday I didn't do a damned thing, which was really nice. Saturday I ran errands and then went to watch Katelyn play at Dunn Bros in Uptown. It was really amazing. Katelyn did an incredible job.

Today I ran even more errands and then had a birthday dinner at my parent's house.

I'd write more, and I know I should, but I'm freaking spent and I've got a couple more things to do before hitting the sack. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, which should be cool.

Ok, so I've been about as busy as any person should be. It was Rachel's birthday on Friday. I went over to her parent's for dinner, which as really good. On Saturday afternoon my bimmer blew up! Long story short, smoke poured out of the engine and I had to park it at my parent's until it could be flat-bedded on Monday. Saturday night was Rachel's birthday party. People came from everywhere! It was an absolute blast. First, we went roller skating at Skateville.

After skating we went to the bar...

On Sunday I woke up and picked up a rental car. I ended up getting a Chevy Aveo, which is just a little bit different than my bimmer. :)

Anyway, I'm freaking exhausted. I've got more than 200 pictures from the last few weeks that I haven't yet gone through. Hopefully I can get to them this week and get a few posted. Later.
