My Journal - January 2005

2005-01-31
Ah, Monday again. What to do? Well, this last weekend was kinda weird. Friday 5K and I went out for drinks. We spent quite a while out and then came back to my place and I had way, way, way too much scotch. I spent pretty much all Saturday nursing my hangover. Saturday night was Luke's b-day party, which was fun and then a party w/ Rachel's friends in Burnsville.

Here's some pics from Friday night:

5K. "He's got crazy eyes! We're being led into the wilderness by a lunatic!"

Me, drunk off my ass.

On Sunday Rachel, Katelyn, Niccole and I went to Theodor Wirth for snow tubing. That was fun and not too cold. I'd go into more detail except that I'm dying of hunger and in about two seconds I'm going to throw Rachel's cell phone across the room so we can eat. Later.

It's Sunday night and this weekend feels like it just flown by. I really need at least one more day off. Unfortunately, it looks like my next day off is going to be in late May.

A shot off my deck on Sunday morning.

Friday it was snowing too hard to do anything at all. Saturday I spent the morning watching documentaries. Saturday afternoon I cleaned some and then made enchiladas for Rachel and I. She liked them. I absolutely love that stuff. Today we went to visit her mom in this sort-of half-hospital place where she's staying for physical therapy. After that we went for a walk in one of the local parks, which was really nice. I really needed to spend some time outside after being stuck inside for the last few weeks. Here's some pics:

And, of course, I watched both conference championship games this afternoon. Katelyn, Carrie, Niccole, and Bish came over. Here's some good shots:

Carrie, Katelyn, and Rachel. I'm not sure what was so funny.

Carrie, Katelyn, and Rachel, again.

So, that's it for me. I've got a really tough week of work coming up here. Hopefully I can get a lot done. :)

Yesterday we finally got our first decent snowstorm! According to the Star Tribune, we got 6-8 inches of snow. It was windy, so we also got some decent drifting.

My deck this morning. I had swept it off before I went to bed last night.

So, it's Saturday morning and I don't have any big plans for the weekend. Rachel and I didn't see each other last night which is maybe the first Friday we haven't seen each other since we started dating. The road conditions were so bad last night, neither of us wanted to brave it.

For some reason I really feel like today is a good day to get some things done, but I'm having some trouble getting moving. I slept so hard last night that I'm still (hours after waking up) pretty out of it.

This weekend was pretty strange. I was feeling pretty sick on Friday, but Rachel and I went out anyway. We went shopping and then dinner at Macaroni Grill and eventually Ciao Bella (long story). Saturday morning we went to the local county service center. Rachel got her driver's license renewed and I applied for a passport. After watching the game that afternoon we went to Hastings for a party. It was a strange night that ended (for us) when 6 cop cars and one ambulance showed up. It's a long story, but Rachel and I got outta that town in one piece and that's all that really matters, I think.

The Vikings lost today, which was expected. The Colts lost to the Patriots, which sucks ass. Anyway, next week's games should be really good.

So it's Sunday night. I'm pretty much over the flu. I've got this whole week to finish a code build that was supposed to be done two weeks ago. It's -6 degrees outside. Damn, I'm tired...

Oh, before I hit the sack: Rachel and I are going to Europe!!! I'm so freaking excited I can barely stand it. We're spending two days in Iceland, a week in Germany, a few days in Amsterdam, and a few days in London. I've already figured that I need a backpack/camera bag and an image tank. A trip that requires toys!!! Holy lord, I'm in heaven. We've already booked the flights, so it's down to intra-Europe travel and lodging. More to come.

Monday again. I'm into so pretty serious development at work. Unfortunately I'm starting to get sick again, so I'm trying my hardest to concentrate which isn't going that well.

In case no one noticed, The Vikings beat The Packers on Sunday! Of all the games that mattered to me this year, this was the most important. Too bad we're going to get killed by The Eagles.

Rachel downtown after a full morning of shopping.

Well, I guess that's all I've really got. I'm incredibly tired and sick, so I'm off to watch some movies.

Happy 2005!!! Now all I want to know is, where is my fscking flying car?!? I mean, come on. It's 2005 already. What's taking so long?

I finally have a little time here, so I'll wrap up the last few weeks. This holiday season was nothing but dinners, shopping, drinks, friends and family. I didn't have a single evening (that I can remember) when I didn't have something going on. It's been exhausting, but fun.

Christmas was good. It was nice to see all the extended family that I never really see too often. Christmas Day is my immediate family's time to have some quiet time together. It's nice. Even if Christmas seems to get less and less about religion, it still has the very important value of providing a time for us to stop and just enjoy each other's company, if only for a few hours, one day a year.

I got some cool gifts. Katelyn gave me a membership to the MN Zoo, which I thought was an incredibly thoughtful and unique gift. Carrie gave me some Scotch and a hip flask. That's just too cool and I can't wait to use it. My parent's gave me a DVD burner which I've installed but haven't used yet. They also gave me a USB drive, lens hood, and some other things. All around, I thought everyone did a great job finding great gifts for each other.

New Year's Eve was a lot of fun too. I took the afternoon off. Rachel and I went downtown to do some things at her office. After that we went rollerblading at the Metrodome (see RollerDome) which was an absolute blast. If it was a little cheeper I'd do that a lot. After a quick stop off at home to get changed we went to a party that was being put on by Greg (Rachel's brother) and some of his friends. That was fun. Greg has some really cool friends. When it got close to 11:00 we took off for a party at one of 5K's friends. That was smaller and more quiet, but fun. At 11:30 we went to a party put on by Rachel's friend Erin. Again, good times. We got home soon after midnight. Neither of got all too drunk, but we took Saturday as a quiet day anyway, and last night I had one of those night's sleep that happens maybe once a year. It took me an hour this morning to get going. Wow, what a great year so far! I have a feeling 2005 is going to be the best year ever!

So it's Sunday afternoon and the Vickings are playing. This is the last week of regular season and I'm already wishing I had more football left. I've got a TODO list that's as long as my arm, so I'm going to be catching up on that while I keep a close eye on the games. One of my TODO's is to finally get through all the pics from the last month. Hopefully I'll have some to post either today or tomorrow.

Go Vikings!!!

Go to entries for December.
