My Journal - July 2004

2004-07-30
So, it's been a few weeks, but I've made some updates to this thing. First, I've added an image library page for Carrie. I've also been working on getting some of the more global, back-end stuff cleaned up. This site is getting bigger than I thought it would and the maintenance is getting a little out of control. Hopefully I'll have some time to get this thing a little more manageable. Too bad I don't have a J2EE server to work with. That would make it a lot easier.

Since the last time I updated this thing I've been incredibly busy. Work has been out-of-control busy because I'm in between some important projects which means I have some precious time to spend on all the stuff that I normally don't have time to work on. On top of that, the intern is working on some things that require a lot of my help. I'm hoping that with a couple more days of good heads-down coding I can finish up most of what I want to do before the next big project gets going.

Other than that I've been eating out a lot (no surprise there). I've had a dozen or so cookouts with friends, work, and friends from work. I've got a cookout for Dan tomorrow at his new place. Sunday I'm going to Fun Kristan's place for a cookout. Fun, fun, fun.

Also, and this is sad, one of my favorite people at work died this last Sunday. I know everyone says this about the recently deceased, but John Twisk really was an incredible person. When I first met him we got on each others nerves, but we became friends pretty quickly. My condolences to his family, friends and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Have a good one John.

Well, I've got a ton to finish before happy hour tonight, so I'm off.

So I've been told that I need to update this thing a little more often. Unfortunately, I'm really kinda out of things to add, so...

Last Friday I went out with Bish and Mahoney to the California Pizza Kitchen in Southdale. They have a lot of very strange pizza concoctions which mostly sound kinda gross. I had some chicken and potato (sans 'e') pizza which was a little odd. After that Mahoney and I went to the Green Mill in uptown because John (now known as 5K) was working and said he'd give us the hookup. We only stayed for a few.

On Saturday I went down to Rochester for Chad and Dorene's house warming party. That was fun. They have a pretty sweet house and a really cute dog. I didn't get back into Minneapolis until after midnight.

On Sunday Kristan and I were supposed to go rollerblading to Stillwater. Unfortunately it was raining in the morning so we had to skip that. Instead we decided to bum around all day. We went CD shopping and I bought three good discs. After that we went to the Science Museum. That was a blast except there were tons of kids there that were playing with everything that I wanted to play with. Kristan, luckily, was pretty good about seeing all the geeky little exhibits. After that we drove to Stillwater for dinner. We sat on the shore for a while which was nice and relaxing. The food part of dinner was a little disappointing, but good wine and good conversation and I had her home by eleven. Oh, and her mother and two sisters were at her place when we got there, so I met them.

I had the day off on Monday. In my head I had grandiose plans of doing all the stupid day-to-day stuff that I never do day-to-day. You know, like laundry and cleaning. Anyway, instead of doing that I spent basically the whole day watching CNN and moving as little as possible. A waste of a perfectly good day? Maybe.

So work has been pretty annoying lately. I've spent the last two weeks on really boring stuff like normalizing legacy data and testing new software. BORING!!! Anyway, I think I finished up all that today so I should get back to my more enjoyable work tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to coding again. It's been weeks!

Well, I guess that's a fairly good recap of my last few days. Tomorrow I think some of us from work are going out for happy hour which I'm looking forward to. I think we're all going to get together for a picnic too one of these weekends.

Go to entries for June.
