My Journal - March 2005
2005-03-28
On Saturday I spent a couple hours doing some preliminary spring cleaning of my car...
The bimmer, dirty.
The bimmer in mid-clean.
The bimmer, all clean and happy. On Sunday we had breakfast at my parents' house...
My mother.
Rachel. Isn't she pretty. :)
Rachel.
Ginny.
Ginny is a great subject. Well, I've got a monster of a week ahead of me, so I'm off to bed. Later.

Last weekend Rachel and I went to Madison, WI, to visit some of her friends. It was really nice to get out of Minneapolis for a little while, even if it was just for a few days. This is the first time I've really hung out with any of them and, as always seems to be the case with friends of Rachel, they were really cool. I brought my camera bag, but I didn't take a single picture. I really wish I had. On Tuesday I went to see The Ring Two with Katelyn, Niccole, Fun Kristan, and a bunch of people I didn't know. IT SUCKED! Too bad really. I thought the first one was one of the best scary movies I've ever seen. Other than all that, I guess life is pretty good. It's getting really warm out, and I even saw the street sweepers doing their thing today which means the city doesn't think we'll get another snow storm. I guess spring is pretty much here. I'm finishing up build 1.1 of the NCM project at work. This has been the best, smoothest build cycle I've had in a long time. I guess all my hard work on the first six builds (0.0 through 1.0) is starting to pay off, because I've been able to get almost all the new functionality to work just by plugging in code from previous builds. I'll end up finishing in 2 less days (in real time) and close to 10 less hours (in billable time) than projected. Hopefully this keeps going, because I feel like I need some wins at work lately. Well, that's all I got. I'm exhausted and tomorrow is Friday and I just want to get this week in the bag. This Sunday is Easter, but I'm hoping the excitement stays to a minimum. Maybe this weekend I can get out and get some pictures taken...

Cool, huh! Holy crap, if I knew then what I know now... Another development in my life: my fish seem to have procreated! Here's a pic to prove it:
It might sound weird, but I'm not real cool with my fish starting a family in my apartment. Oh well.

The quick wrap-up: Friday Rachel and I stayed in. We were supposed to go to Katelyn's concert, but Rachel was exhausted and I was sick. So, movies and sleeping. Saturday we met up with Chad and Dorene for an early dinner. We went to McCoy's which is really great food for a bar. After that we fully planned on going out to see a movie but nothing started at the right times or in the right theaters, so we said fsck it and watched movies at home. Today we went to the zoo.
I've been sick for a while now and I just can't seem to shake it. Since I haven't been smoking this whole sick thing is a lot easier. My throat isn't torn up, so it's just the basic runny nose, etc. Anyway, like I said, I'm just not getting over this, which is starting to really annoy the hell out of me. I'm officially 14 days into being a non-smoker. Amazingly, it doesn't seem to be getting any easier. I guess The Patch must be helping in some way, but I'm still jonesing 24/7 and my willpower to quit is really starting to wane. I'll keep going, of course, mostly because I guess I don't really get why I'd smoke again. I know this physical thing is just withdrawal. I know that smoking again is not going to make me feel any better in the long run. Still, this killing me a little bit every day. I hope it gets nice and warm out soon so I can get some outside time. Maybe that'll help. This itch has got to go away soon, right?
So I'm moving in just 7 weeks! On Friday I picked up some boxes from the print shop at work. I've got markers and packing tape all set up and ready. Now all I need is a little motivation! Actually, this'll be a good move for me. It's been a while since I've gone through all my crap and really cleaned house. Oh, and I really needed a television but I couldn't figure out a way to get one that would be nice and I could afford. Well, Rachel to the rescue. She emailed me on Friday and said that her boss was moving and wanted to get rid of her almost brand new 36" Sony TV for cheep! Holy crap that just rules! I went online to take a look at it and the specs say it's 230 pounds. That's more than two people can handle for any extended distance, so I think I'm going to have to use a dolly or something. Anyway, logistics aside, this is going to be freaking great! Getting this TV is going to make this new place all the better for me. I know Rachel is excited about shopping for couches and stuff to put on the wall, but this TV is doing it for me.
At work I'm in this mode where I can't really work too much on my main project because one of the builds is in testing. That means that I'm basically sitting at my desk with more work than I know what to do with and nothing to work on. I'm really going to try and blow through some of my misc things before my main project gets rolling again. I guess that's it for now. Hopefully I'll have some time later this week to get some real updates to this site. Probably not, though... Go to entries for February. |
