My Journal - November 2004

...which I dig in a huge way! Also, Bish and I finally installed our new server...
Bish getting Breña's trunk ready for the new server.
The new server (Stewie) on the rack at CWS. Well, that's pretty much all I want to post. Later. 2004-11-21

Highway 494 from my dashboard at night.
A squirrel who was nice enough to pose for me.
Bish at his desk in his house.
Breña's grill, obviously.
Dan the Man in his cube.
Breña in a parking lot.
The road sign just outside my apartment in the morning fog. I still haven't gotten my winter tires put on Breña. I'm well over two weeks past the standard MN deadline of October 31st! Hopefully the snow holds off a little while longer. Oh, and I saw the new server for the first time tonight. It looks pretty sweet. Hopefully I can get iRemote moved over before the first of the year. Rachel and I are planning on going on the Twin Cities Loft Tour on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to it. Well, I've got to sleep, so that's it.

Rachel laying on me while we watched the football game. Tomorrow I get some good lenses and big memory cards and a decent flash! All the other misc things (filters, extra batteries, bag) should be here by the end of the week. That's all folks!

The dance floor at the Wisconsin wedding.
The truck that Rachel got to honk at us. I was working on a new image library for my pics from the Wisconsin wedding and I really sort of dig those. I'll have the rest of the pics ready soon. I went to the dentist today for the second time in as many weeks. I've got to go back next Monday for The Full Treatment! I'm getting to know that guy a little too well for my taste. I take so many pictures that I thought about finally getting a nice digital SLR. I've done all my research and decided on the Canon EOS 20D. Now all I've got to do is decide if I'm really going to drop that kind of cash. Really though, who am I kidding. Of course I will. ;)

Saturday I did almost nothing and then went to the game with Bish. Before hand we went to dinner at Sally's which was cool because I haven't been there in a while. The game was a lot of fun. Gophers won 4-2. Rachel went out Saturday night for less-than-wholesome night with her friends. Today, as per my normal routine, I watched all the football games that were on. Actually, when I walked out of my room today just after noon there were already a bunch of people on my couch watching the Eagles game! Anyway, that's pretty much been my day. I don't know why that's strange, but I feel weird about it. Later.

I finally got my Holga pics online! I think they turned out pretty good. Anyway, here's a couple more of my favorites:
I know most of you have probably seen some of this stuff, but since The Election, there has been a lot of interesting stuff floating around the net. My favorite is the Voter Breakdown by IQ. Fscking hillarious. Also, check out this fake GWB commercial. Ok, that's it for me. I'm going to the Gopher Hockey game tomorrow night with Rachel. That should be fun. I'm taking Bish to the Saturday game. Other than that, I'm really hoping for a somewhat quiet weekend. Later!

This election really wasn't about liberal values vs. conservative values, at least not in a way that would be recognizable to the nation even ten years ago. This election was, in many ways, a referendum on a fundemental change in the political landscape of America, with the new dividing line between liberal values and moral values. Frankly, for a lot of us here in the blue states (liberal and conservative alike), the issues that matter to the moral values crowd just seem alien. Most of us honestly believed that this election was going to firmly and decisively prove that only a very small, very vocal group of people really give a damn about about moral value issues. We believed that the moral values crowd would be swept off the national stage, and the country go back to the debate between old fashioned liberal versus conservative values. We were wrong. I'm guessing that y'all in the red states have known how important "moral values" are for years. In the blue states, we were completely blindsided by it, and it scares the shit out of most of us. The fact is, nearly a third of the electorate believes that "moral values" are an important issue. We honestly had no idea it mattered to anyone, and most of us us are scratching our heads trying to figure out why it would matter to anyone. The issues that suddenly matter suprise us. In the blue states, we might disagree on abortion, or same-sex unions, or the words "under God" in the pledge of allegience, but for the most part we really just don't give a shit about them. They may all get talked about on the "news" networks, but we view them as filler in between the ceasless prattle about the Peterson trial. They're certainly not an issue that anyone would base a vote on. It turns out that same-sex marriage is a very important issue in America. In the blue states, we had no idea that anyone gave a damn. It turns out that the words "under God" in the Plege of Allegience is a very important issue in America. In the blue states, we just can't see how it really matters. It turns out that public displays of The Ten Commandments is a very important issue in America. In the blue states, we might individually be for or against it, but collectively we really just don't care. It turns out that abortion is a very important issue in America. In the blue states, we may have strong feelings one way or the other, but for the most part we thought the issue was decided twenty years ago. In other words, this election heralds the arrival of a whole new set of important issues on the national political stage. And, frankly, in the blue states the fact that any of these issues are even being discussed scares the living shit out of us. When I woke up this morning, it was to the news that the United States of America is not the country that I thought it was when I went to bed last night. I know I couldn't say it better myself. The original posting is here. The whole thread is pretty interesting if you have the time. So what else? Well, I did finally sit down and scan in all the Holga pics I've been talking about forever. It took close to four hours. Of course, as it turns out there was 93 of them! I'll get them all posted soon (hopefully this weekend), but until then, here's a couple of my favorites:
Well, that's all I've got in me for today. :)

Radar. Tomorrow is the much anticipated election day. I hope to God Bush loses (and bad, if I had my way), but whatever your preference, please take a little time to vote. As cliched as it is, this whole political system only really works if we all play the part of Boss for just one day. Well, I've got a fun day or work and then a root canal tomorrow, so I should get some sleep. Go to entries for October. |
