My Journal - November 2005
2005-11-24
Well, it's 10:30 pm, I'm stuffed to the gills with turkey, mashed potatoes, and dinner rolls, I'm physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted, and I'm currently crunching a double-dose of anti-heartburn tablets between my teeth. Got to love the holidays. :) Last night Mahoney, Murphy, Bish, Todd, Todd's wife, Rachel, and I went to Nochee for our second annual Friends Thanksgiving Dinner. It was really nice to have everyone together again. I don't see Murphy or Todd very much anymore. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately the wine list was pretty poor and the food was not that great, and not much of it. I wouldn't go back to that place, at least not for dinner. This morning Rachel and I went to my parents' house for homemade doughnuts, which are great. Katelyn and Mike came to that too. After breakfast we went over to Rachel's parents' house just to visit. Chewie spent the whole time chewing on Roxy's ears, which seems to really annoy her to no end. We went back to my parents' house for dinner around 4:00. Dinner was good. The whole immediate family was there plus Rachel, Mike, and my grandparents (Mom's side of the family). I'm really enjoying my new laptop. It's a Compaq V2000Z. It has a 2 GHz AMD Turion 64 bit processor, 2 GB RAM, a 100 GB 7200 RPM HDD, a 14 inch widescreen LCD, and all the other fun stuff you can get. It's a custom setup, so I basically just loaded it with every option. I really wanted the wide screen and a 64 bit AMD processor, and this is really the only option out there for that. So far I'm pretty happy with the whole setup. The battery lasts a long time, the keyboard is comfortable to type on, and the performance is good. I really wish I could have run Linux on it, but Windows will have to do. I hadn't built this into my budget, but since it's a Windows box I had to buy antivirus, system utilities, and Adobe Photoshop Elements. I guess I don't mind buying software, but I would have really liked to go all open source this time. Oh well, maybe someday. This is our official upgrade weekend. It's almost 1:00 am right now (I took the dog for a walk and watched SportsCenter while I've been writting this), so I'm on-call. I got the midnight to 8:00 am shift. There's almost no chance I'll have to do anything tonight or tomorrow night, but I'll probably be working most of the night on Saturday (into Sunday morning). We're way ahead of schedule right now, so I'm guessing that means everything has gone well. Well, that's it for me. I'll probably have time to update this thing again tomorrow. Later.
