My Journal - October 2004

2004-10-30
Hey all. I don't have much to talk about today. More to the point, I don't really feel like talking about anything. I've been in just the worst mood for the past week or so and nothing seems to get me out of it. I'm almost to the point where I'm going to go for a walk. That's not a good sign.

This last week Rachel was in Nebraska for her grandmother's funeral. I know she was sad about it all, but she took it well. While she was gone I took care of her dogs. Roxy didn't like me at all. She kept looking at me with this where-the-hell-is-my-family look. Celia was sweet though and seemed to appreciate the little time I had to spend with them.

Anyway, Rachel took some pics of her trip. They all turned out pretty good, but here's one of my favorites:

Rachel in the car on the way out to Nebraska.

So, what else? On Thursday I went down to Rochester to see the new CWS building. It was so much nicer than I thought it would be. Really amazing. I didn't really get that much time to see everyone because I had to come back to Minneapolis pretty quick (dinner w/ Bish and taking out the dogs). Still, it was good to see Chad and Al again.

I picked up the prints we took with the Holga camera. They turned out really, really nice. I'm so glad. Since they're not digital I'll have to get them scanned in, which I definitely will do. I'll put up a little Holga library here soon once I get them all scanned.

And on the geek side of my life, Bish and I are going to build a server and have it co-located at CWS. It's mostly going to be a playground for us, but I will move iRemote over once it's stable. Hopefully I'll get iRemote a little more interactive (dynamic?) than it is right now.

Let's see, what else ... oh, I helped move Katelyn today. It was exhausting and I have a killer welt (???, not sure what you'd call it for sure) on my arm where I crushed it into a door knob while moving the big couch. Katelyn's new place is really nice. It's a great size and the complex is kind of older, but in a really good way. The hallways are really dark which makes it feel kind of like a hotel. She has vaulted ceilings too, which I really like. Anyway, I'm exhausted and glad the moving part is over with.

I just re-read all that. Wow, I use the word 'really' a lot! Even I'm annoyed by it, and it's my words! hehehe

Oh, and an official shout out to Rachel's friends in Madison. Thanks for the email and pic:

Rachel's Madison friends: (Drunk) Megan, Jen (Sexual Chocolate), and Maggie

Ok, that's all I've got in me. I think I'm going to try and get something done. Maybe wash the car or something. :)

Whatup! Well, I'm going to keep this short because I need a good night's sleep. I'm mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted.

I went to Wisconsin this weekend with Rachel for a wedding. It was interesting, to say the least. Wisconsin is a strange and fantastical place. I must say, I'm a little fascinated by it. It's so midwestern and a little hick and completely, unabashedly, comfortable with that. Odd.

Anyway, the wedding was fun. Rachel and I spent Sunday doing a mini-tour of the rest of central Wisconsin, which was fun. As it turns out, I took 170 pictures over those two days!!! Here's just a few:

Me at the Leinenkugel's Brewery (a.k.a. The Place Where Happiness is Made)

Rachel in a cowboy hat. I don't remember why.

The bimmer in Steven's Point. Oh, and a RED GRAND AM!!!

Me outside the Donaldson factory in Steven's Point.

Yes, I am as drunk as I look here.

I'll put up more once I have some time to go through them all.

It's Sunday night again. Can you believe that shit? Life seems to be going so quickly lately. Actually, I suppose it's always felt like that, but lately it seems to be getting worse!

So what did I do this weekend? Well, Friday after work I went to a wedding with Rachel. I wish I could say it was a blast, but those kind of events are so completely not my thing. Anyway, the couple getting married were really cool. The bride's sisters were really cool. Actually, they reminded me a ton of Susan and her sisters. Anyway, Rachel and both got very drunk, which was kind of cool because we've never really been drunk and stupid together. The good news is I'm a fan of Drunk Rachel and I don't think Drunk Robert annoyed her too much. :)

Saturday was all about nursing our respective hangovers. We watched movies and ate comfort food and basically just relaxed. It's nice to have a do-nothing day again. I feel like I've been just way too busy lately. Anyway, that night after Rachel went home Katelyn and I watched watched The Butterfly Effect. I really liked the storyline and cinematography. The only real drawback of the movie was the truly sub-par acting by Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart. They should both be banned from having any kind of dramatic role.

Today Rachel and I went to this going away shindig for my grandmother. It was cool to see everyone again. Here's some pics:

My Dad and my aunt Sue.

Carrie and Grandma Nelson.

Grandma, Carrie, Katelyn, and Annie.

My artsy shot of Carrie.

This is probably my favorite pic of Rachel and I.

After the party Rachel wanted to carve pumpkins. Now I haven't done this for probably at least 10 years! Anyway, we went to this farmer's market kind of place and picked some up. We both got two so I could keep a couple and she could take a couple back to her place. It was fun, and as it turns out we discovered yet another activity where she's far better than me. Magoo!!! My poor ego is getting beaten down by the day.

Rachel and I at the pumpkin-store place.

Rachel getting the goo out of one of the pumpkins.

Big smile!

The final product. Guess who did which one.

My attempt at an artsy shot.

Tonight Gortho, Christine, Niccole, Katelyn, Rachel and I all watched the Vikings game together. I hate to say it, but Culpepper is starting to look like a good QB. If he can just get a little better at finding his recievers, he might be a great QB. Anyway, this has been a pretty good year for being a Vikings fan. They've played well.

Alright, that's all I've got. This week I've got to get some stuff done! I'm going out of town next weekend, so I really need to get some things in order. Hopefully I can be a little productive with my evenings this week. Later.

So it's been almost a full week since I've updated this thing. Sorry about that.

What's been going on? Well, last Friday Rachel and I went out with a bunch of her friends, her cousin, and 5K and Mrs 5K. I haven't seen John in months, so it was really good to see him again. As always, Rachel's friends were really cool to hang out with.

On Saturday Rachel, her cousin, and I went downtown. The girls wanted to shop, which didn't really appeal to me too much. I bought a book and some coffee and sat in the little park next to Orchestra Hall and read. That was really nice. It's been too long since I just sat and read outside.

Sunday I watched the Vikings game and then went over to Rachel's to hang out. All good times. :)

Yesterday (yep, I'm skipping Monday), I went out to dinner with Katelyn, which was nice because we haven't seen much of each other lately. Then she wanted to go shopping for bedding for her new place. We went to Marshall Fields. I bought tons of clothes and a jacket for the fall. Katelyn didn't buy a damned thing.

Anyway, so that's that. I haven't really taken any pics lately, but here's one that Chad sent me:

Chad in his new office in the new CWS building.

Some of my co-workers are in Singapore for a few weeks. They sent me some pics that I'll put up once I remember to bring them home.

Well, that's about it. Later.

Whatup? I'm pretty exhausted, so I'm going to keep this short.

Work is going pretty well. The last week or so I've had a pretty fun project to work on, which is a nice change. Looks like I'll be done with it tomorrow though. Hopefully something new comes in that's interesting.

Today marks two months since Rachel and I started dating. I feel weird (bad?) for not buying her something for the occation. In my defense I fully planned to. Unfortunately I didn't find what I was looking for. Oh well, I will some day and it'll be a nice suprise.

I don't have any of my own pics that I want to put up, so here are some funny one's that I found on the net:

I hope to God the guy who put this up thought it was funny.

Somewhat topical.

I couldn't have said it better.

Oh, and here's your fscked up news article of the day. In the words of Rachel, "crazy much?". This proves once and for all that place kickers are the most screwed up of all pro football players.

Well, I hate to be so boring, but that's all I've got in me. Later.

2004-10-03
So, the weekend and I'm a little sick. Not death-bed sick, but too sick to go out for too much fun. I even left work early Friday to get some rest and let my stomach settle a little. Rachel came over Friday night and brought me some food, which was incredible, and tea and a blanket and this great smily face mug (inside joke). She's, like, the coolest girl on the planet!

On Thursday there a bunch of us got together for a going-away party for Tall Kristen. She moved to New York to act. I've never actually seen her in anything, but from what I hear she definitely has enough tallent to make that happen. Anyway, here's some pics:

Katelyn and Tall Kristen. I have no idea about this pose, but it meant something to them.

Kristen, Katelyn, and Megan.

Kristen, Gortho, and me. Yeah, that's a smoke in my hand, what of it?!?

Fun Kristan and me. I look a lot more stoned/drunk than I am here. :)

I look really happy here.

And this is the shot of the night.

Today I skipped out on my normal Sunday football routine (couch, pizza, nine hours of football) to spend the day with Rachel at the zoo. It was fun and I'm glad we did it this weekend because it's starting to get pretty cold. We spent hours there but still didn't see everything. We also saw Spiderman 2 at the IMAX after the zoo closed. I took a ton of pics, but here's the highlights:

The prairie dog that Rachel fell in love with.

Some camels. Watch out, they spit!

One of the new tiger cubs. They were really playful.

One of the new mean-ass sharks they've got there now.

One of the not-so-mean-ass sharks they've had there forever.

Rachel next to the "don't taunt the dolphins" sign.

Ok, I know that's a lot of pics, but I had over 200 shots to choose from for this weekend! Hopefully I can get some time to get everything up to the images area, but not tonight. I'm off to see if I can catch football highlights and maybe even catch a few zzz's. I'm already exhausted this week and it's Sunday night! :)
